Non-Board Architectural Committee: Janine Barber
Guests: Mark Ashmead, Ed Klobas
President Sobel called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm
The Board is pleased that Mark Ashmead has volunteered to help on the Water Committee. This is the Committee that has a number of important responsibilities, including cleaning canal ends, periodic dredging to remove silt, water testing, tilapia stocking for algae control, beaver trapping, fountain maintenance and repair, removing or having owners remove tree limbs that extend into the canal interfering with boat traffic, maintenance of three fountains and dam repairs.
Bruce Turner, treasurer, who was not able to attend the meeting provided copies of the financials. Cash total is $140,185.79 and $1331.42 in receivables. The latter is because there are four homeowners with outstanding dues. Expenses for January – April 2025 were $5,142.58 that included canal cleaning labor, electricity, and professional & legal fees. An additional expense of $2,055 for tilapia recently placed in the canals will show as an expense for May. About half of the expense for dam repair has been paid, and the remaining expense will be approximately $100,000. This will leave approximately $40,000 in the budget. It is expected that dam repair will begin July 1-15.
The Architectural Committee reported that four projects have been approved. They are a patio overhaul, two solar panel installations, and an exterior painting. Owners are reminded to request a meeting or contact the committee members to obtain approval for any exterior changes as is required by the HOA covenants.
It was reported that due to a recent heavy rain, all three fountains were out of order for a few days. Two have been re-started. The third has electrical problems that must be addressed before it can be re-started.
Installation of fiber cable by AT&T will begin shortly. Resurfacing of some streets in the neighborhood will begin after fiber installation. It might be a good idea to take some pictures of the front yard of your house from the street and a few feet in from the curb.
Friends of Bob Findlay Linear Park will install plants around the Bob Linear Park sign on Saturday, May 17. The Board wishes to thank Vicky Dixon and Paul Scudder for their efforts in organizing this project. The city is supplying all of the plants.
Concern was expressed about the quality of the mowing and tree trimming by the Parks Department. It appears that mowing and trimming is not done far enough away from the sidewalks such that growth from weeds and trees is encroaching on the sidewalks.
It appears that a beaver may have returned to the canals. The beaver trapper that has been used in the past will be contacted to place a trap to capture the beaver. Any beavers caught will be humanely relocated.
This is a big year for the July 4 Boat Parade. The first parade was organized by Jim and Jennifer Haskell in 2005. Jim and Jennifer passed the responsibility to Mike Saliba and Ken Simoneaux a few years ago. The Independence Day boat parade will begin at 7:00 pm on Friday, July 4. Details about the parade and the parade route will be provided in an email from Ralph.
Please help make this 20th July 4 Boat Parade a big success as previous parades have been for residents, family members, and friends. We hope for a big turn-out of decorated boats in the parade.
Meeting was adjourned at 9:00pm.
