The 2019 Independence Day Boat Parade was a splashing success, with 15 imaginatively decorated entries (all but one were pontoon boats) and numerous boisterous backyard spectators along the route. Grand Marshal was Roger Pendleton, longtime Secretary on the Lake Interlochen HOA Board. He and his wife Yvonne rode on the boat of Ken and Rose Marie Seipel. Roger joins the distinguished list of Lake Interlochen residents who have been honored as Grand Marshals: Vernon Porter, Jim Haskell, Carole Findlay and Ken Seipel. Michael Saliba, who with co-chair Ken Simoneaux are directors of the annual event, served once again as emcee and provided patriotic music. There was a change in format for this year’s boat parade, as no prizes for decorating were presented — instead of competition, the parade focused on the celebration of freedom and observing the 243rd birthday of the United State of America.
